Volunteer Opportunities

National Volunteer Program VISTA (United States)

The Goodwill VISTA Partnership is a statewide AmeriCorps VISTA program that builds capacity and sustainability of nonprofits to reduce poverty in Maine communities through indirect service. VISTA members build capacity in their placement sites through volunteer management, fundraising, marketing, program design, etc. to increase services to individuals living in poverty. ITNAmerica is a national non-profit with 27 affiliated communities across the country. Our office is located in downtown Westbrook, with easy access to the busline. Our affiliates provide door-through-door, arm-through-arm transportation services to seniors and adults with visual impairments. In addition to the direct service provided by the affiliates, ITNAmerica also works on research projects, policy work on local and national levels, and ensuring access to transportation through innovative partnerships and funding options. ITNAmerica grew from the local affiliate, ITNPortland, which is still co-located with the national office. Affiliates use volunteer drivers to help keep costs low and to fund scholarship accounts for low-income riders with earned credits. The VISTA member will work with the Affiliate Support Department and the Marketing Department to create and roll out a National Volunteer Recruitment Program to our local and national affiliates.

Member Duties : The member will work to create and launch a National Volunteer Recruitment program for ITN Affiliates, with a focus on recruiting volunteer drivers to better serve low-income seniors. Affordable transportation by volunteer drivers allows seniors to stay in their communities and helps break the cycle of poverty that many seniors would otherwise experience. Working first on a local level, the member will revise and create volunteer recruitment materials and design training for affiliate staff. A pilot program with local affiliates will allow for program refinement and revision, and then the member will work with affiliates nationwide to roll out the program. The member will also work on fundraising and creating strategic partnerships to support Volunteer Recruitment programs, on both the national and local levels, to ensure that the volunteer recruitment programs are sustainable beyond the term of the VISTA.

Relocation Allowance, Training, Childcare assistance if eligible, Stipend, Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend.
